Found in Parana state of Brazil and Paraguay from the Sierra de Amambay on the border with Paraguay, east to the State of Paraná, at elevations of 840 to 1200 meters as a miniatutre to small sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte with simple, cane-like, terete at base, laterally compressed above stems with branches erect to slightly arching upwards as they are produced from the previous stem at a wide angle, covered at the base by 2 non-foliar, tubular, scarious sheaths .16 to .28" [4 to 7 mm] long, and carrying 5 to 13, distributed throughout the stem, articulate, sub-spreading, coriaceous, similar in size and shape with a tubular, striated sheaths, narrowly ovate to oblong-lanceolate, apex rounded, margin entire leaves that blooms in the spring and summer without a spathe, flowering only once, racemose to paniculate, erect, sub-terete, straight; base provided with a bract .16 to .28" [4 to 7 mm] long, triangular, rachis .68 to 2.4" [1.7 to 6 cm] long, straight, 1.4 to 2.8" [3.5 to 7.0 cm] long overall, simultaneously 5 to 14 flowered inflorescence with as long as to slightly longer than the ovary, widely ovate-triangular, apex sub-acute, embracing floral bracts and carrying distichous, non-resupinate, fleshy, yellow-green flowers with fragrance not registered.
"Epidendrum pseudavicula belongs to the GROUP Aquaticum which is characterized by the usually monopodial, branching habit, the distichous, erect to arching-nutant inflorescence, flowers fleshy, and the disc of the lip and/or nectary often pilose. The species is recognized by the small plants, .28 to 8" [7 to 20 cm] tall, leaves narrowly ovate to oblong-lanceolate, .4 to 3.2" x .24 to .72" [1.0 to 8.0 x 0.6 to 1.8 cm], yellow-green flowers, sepals .224 to .24" [5.6 to 6.0 mm] long, petals linear, .2 to .213" x .3 to .32" [5.0 to 5.3 x 0.75 to 0.8 mm], calli small, thin, parallel. Epidendrum aquaticum Lindl. has similar sized plants, but the leaves are lanceolate, .52 to 2.04" x .16 to .24" [1.3 to 5.1 x 0.4 to 0.6 cm], flower green, sepals ca. .2" [5 mm] long, and the lip with the base truncate. Epidendrum carnosum Lindl. has much taller plants, to 50" [125 cm] tall, leaves lanceolate, 1.6 to 3.44" x .24 to .52" [4 to 8.6 x 0.6 to 1.3 cm], flowers yellow or yellow-green, sepals .36 to .4" [9 to 10 mm] long, petals .32 to .36" x .06 to .1" [8 to 9 x 1.5 to 2.5 mm], lanceolate-rhombic, and the lip with a single callus, apically bilobed. Epidendrum dendrobioides Thunb. has linear-lanceolate leaves 1.4 to 2.4" x .2 to .32" [3.5 to 6.0 x 0.5 to 0.8 cm], yellow flowers, sepals .24 to .3" [6.0 to 7.5 mm] long, petals .22 to .24" x .04 to .048" [5.5 to 6 x 1.0 to 1.2 mm], the calli thin, convergent towards the apex, forming a “Y” with a narrow mid-rib in between the calli."
