Full Sun Cool EARLY Summer

Common Name Ekman's Habenaria [Swedish Botanist early 1900's]

Flower Size .6" [1.5 cm]

Found in DF, Minas Gerais, Matto Grosso do Sul, Sao Paulo, Rio do Sul, and Santa Catarina as a medium sized, cool growing terrestrial with a stout, robust, erect stem enveloped completely by imbricating leafless sheaths grading above into 14 to 15, leaf-bearing amplexicaul, ovate, acute, basally clasping leaves that blooms in the early summer on an erect, 8" [20 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, equal in length to the ovary floral bracts.

Kew adds H recta as a synonym of this species but I have left them separate pending more research.

A large flowered species related to H araneiflora but distinguished by the petals and lip with a peculiar pitted, dotted appearance, one third smaller flowers, and quite different lip an petals. The upper leaves under the inflorescence are reminiscent of those of Peristylis. H recta was compared to H umbraticola and H nemorosa but differs from both in the loose inflorescence and the longer front segments of the petals. The stem is strikingly straighlt." Schlechter 1920

Synonyms Rhinorchis ekmaniana (Kraenzl.) Szlach. 2012
