Common Name or Meaning The Heart-Shaped Lip Lepanthes

Found in Risaralda department of Colombia at elevations around 2000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with a pendant, branched rhizome enveloped by 2, long-spiculate, imbricating, lepanthiform sheaths and carrying ramicauls enveloped by a long-ciliate, imbricating, lepanthiform sheaths and carrying a single, apical, pendant, coriaceous, lightly concave, sparsely short-ciliate, broadly ovate-subcordate, obtuse apically, contracted below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on an ascending, .02" [5 mm] long, loose, successively few flowered inflorescence arising from near the apex of the ramicaul and has a long-spiculate floral bract.

"Superficially, this species is similar to L. pilosella and its relatives, but the leaves are more or less cordate in outline, Slightly concave, and only slightly ciliate on the margins. The sheaths are long-spiculate. The inflorescence is a short, ascending, successively-flowered raceme. The flat dorsal sepal stands erect, the synsepal is ovate and shortly bifid, and the petals are sagittate, lobed at the base. The lip is deeply cordate with the basal lobes enveloping the column and with the acute apex beneath the column." Luer 1994
