Common Name Werner's Lepanthes [Named for Florian Werner, University of Bayreuth, who collected this species at the Estación Cientófica San Francisco.]

Found in Zamora-Chinchipe province of Ecuador at elevations around 2200 as a small sized, cold growing epiphyte with a pendant rhizome carrying distichous, short ramicauls enveloped basally by a single infundibular, ciliated sheath and carrying a single, apical, pendant, disitchous, thickly coriaceous, glabrous, elliptical-suborbicular, basally broadly cuneate to rounded, contracted into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall on an erect, loose, successively 2 to 3 flowered racemose, .28" [7mm] long, ascending inflorescence with shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.

"Distinguished by the small habit with elliptical to suborbicular, glabrous leaves with a short, ascending, successively flowered racemose inflorescence with widely spread, purple flowers with a broad, obtuse, pubescent dorsal sepals and the widely spread, acute, apiculate, cellular granular lateral sepals. The lobes of the petals are triangular and opposite. The simply bilobed lip has erect, triangular, either obtuse or acute lobes and the apex is entire without an appendix." Carl Luer lobes
