Common Name The Sickle-Shaped Masdevallia [Refers to the sepals shape]

Found in northern Colombia in cloud forests at elevations of 2400 to 3000 meters high altitude, miniature to small sized, cold growing epiphyte with blackish, erect, slender ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, dorsally mottled black, narrowly elliptical-linear, acute leaf that gradually narrows below into the subpetiolate base and blooms in the spring on a slender, erect, single flowered inflorescence with a bract near the base and a tubular floral bract all arising from low on the ramicaul.
