Common Name Guerriero's Masdevallia [Ecuadorian Co-Discoverer of Species]

A cloud forest, small sized, caesptose, hot to warm growing epiphyte from Ecuador in cloud forests that occurs at elevations around 1000 meters with stout, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 loose, tubular sheaths carrying an oblanceolate, single, apical, coriaceous, tapering to a conduplicate base leaf that blooms in the spring on an erect to suberect, slender, 5" [12.5 cm] long, triquetrous, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a short basal bract and an oblique, imbricating floral bract that carries a few flowers that open in single sucession and are held at or above the leaf height.
