Common Name The Bright Purple Masdevallia

Flower Size 1 1/2" [3.75 cm]

Found in Ecuador and northern Peru in cloud forests at elevations around 1000 to 2000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 thin, tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptic, acute leaf with the base narrowly cuneate into the petiole. Blooming in the spring on a shorter than the leaves, 3 1/5" to 4 3/5" [8 to 9 cm] long, slender, erect, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract near the base and a tubular floral bract that has the flower held near mid-leaf.
