Common Name The Ruby Red Masdevallia

Flower Size 3/4" [2 cm]

Found in Ecuador and Peru at elevations around 1800 to 2000 meters as a small sized, cool growing epiphyte with slender, erect, blackish ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, dark green, obtuse to rounded, cuneate below into the blackish petiolate base leaf and blooms in the winter on a slender, more or less horizontal, 3/4 to 1" [2 to 2.5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul and carrying a basal bract and a floral bract
