Common Name The Ruby Red Masdevallia

Flower Size 1" [2.5 cm]

Found in southeastern Ecuador and northeastern Peru in cloud forests at elevations around 1000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with slender, erect, blackish ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, dark green, elliptical, subacute to obtuse, cuneate below into the blackish petiolate base leaf and blooms in the fall on a slender, erect to suberect, .42 to .55" [1.1 to 1.4 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul and carrying a bract near the base and a floral bract
