Common Name or Meaning Schoonen's Masdevallia [Dutch Discoverer of species current]

Found in Amazonas department of Peru near Pomacochas at elevations around 2100 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing epiphyte with slender, blackish, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 loose, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, dark green, elliptical, obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall on an slender, erect, 1.8 to 2.2" [4.5 to 5.5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from near the base of the ramicaul, with a thin bract at the base and has a tubular floral bract.
