Common Name The Banner Bearing Masdevallia [refers to the flower held high over the plant]

Found in northern Peru without locational data as a mini-miniature sized epiphyte with slender, erect, black ramcauls enveloped by 2 to 3, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, dark green, broadly elliptical, obtuse to rounded, cuneate below into the blackish petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall on a slender, erect, 1.2 to 1.6" [3 to 4 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract near the base and with a tubular floral bract.
