Common Name Wagener's Masdevallia [German Plant Collector In Venezuela mid-1800's]

Flower Size about 2 1/2" [6 cm]

This miniature sized, tufted, epiphytic species with suberect leaves, is endemic to Venezuela and grows cool to warm, with slender erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, elliptic, petiolate, suberect, coriaceous, minutely tridentate apically, glossy dark green leaf that is cuneate below into the petiole and blooms in the spring, summer and fall with a suberect to spreading, slender, to 2" [5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract near the base and a tubular floral bract that is held amid the leaves and is found at elevations of 1100 to 1800 meters.
