Common Name or Meaning Sugiyama's Paphiopedilum [Japanense orchid Enthusiast and discoverer of species current]

Flower Size 3.6 to 3.8" [9 to 9.5 cm]

Found in Sabah Borneo in hill forests at elevations around 800 meters as a medium sized [in flower] warm growing terrestrial or lithophyte with 3 to 5, oblong-elliptic, obtuse, minutely tridenticulate, minutely serrate margins towards the apex, tessellated dark and light green on the upper surface of the leaves that blooms on an erect, terminal, maroon, densely brown pubescent, 12 to 14" [30 to 35 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence with a conduplicate, lanceolate, acute, green, sometimes basally brown, white ciliate bract.

Similar to but separated from Paphiopedilum javanica the larger dorsal sepal and the brownish purple petals which are finely spotted over the entire surface,
