Common Name The Coban Pleurothallis [a town in Guatemala]

Found in Veracruz Oaxaca and Chiapas states of Mexico, Belize, Alta Verapaz department of Guatemala, Zalaya province of Nicaragua and Alajuela province of Costa Rica in humid montane forests at elevations 1000 to 1400 meters as a miniature to small sized, cool growing, caespitose epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls enveloped by loose, tubular sheath below the middle and 2 shorter sheaths at the base and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall on a subdense, arising laterally from near the apex of the ramicaul through a conspicuous spathe, secund, 3.2 to 11.2" [8 to 28 cm] long, simultaneously severla to many flowered, racemose inflorescence as long as to just short of the pedicel floral bracts.
"Characterized by obtuse, petiolate leaves, ac conspicuous spathe, and a simultaneouly many flowered raceme of purple flowers. The flowers apopear similar to P tuerkheimii but they are only about half the size. The primary difference lies in the broadly rounded lateral lobes of the lip that occupy the basal half of the lip. The lateral lobes of the lip of P tuerkheiimii are smaller in proportion, rounded and basal." Luer 1998
