Common Name The Geographic Pleurothallis [an allusion to the disc of the labellum being like a topographic map]

Flower Size .4" [1 cm]

Found in Loja and Zamora-Chinchipe provinces of Ecuador and Pasco department of Peru in montane forests at elevations of 1500 to 3000 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing, caespitose epiphytic species with slender, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, spreading, rigidly coriaceous, avate, acute, basally sessile and cordate leaf that blooms in the fall on a arising through a spathe at hte leaf base, fascile of successive single flowered, short inflorescence with a thin, tubular, just shorter than the pedicel floral bract.

"The rather small, rigid leaves spread horizontally from slender stems. The red-purple lip is conspicuous in the proportionately large, light yellow flowers. The narrow petals spread widely to either side. The most distinguishing feature of the plant is the surface of the blunt, ovate lip. The glenion is well-formed and the center of the lip is slightly sulcate. Radiating toward the margins are minute, irregular, branching rows of shallow rugae and glebulae with larger tuberosities toward the apex, resembling a geographic surface." Luer 1977
