Common Name Kegel's Pleurothallis [German Orchid Collector 1800's]

Found in Surinam and Fr Guiana in lowland forests at elevations below 1000 meters as a miniature to small sized, warm growing, shortly repent epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls enveloped above the base by 2 to 3 loose, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, acute, cuneate below into the sessile base leaf that blooms in the winter on a loose, 2" [5 cm] long including the .6 to 1" [1.5 to 2.5 cm] long peduncle, 4 to 6 flowered inflorescence arising through a spathe from the apex of the ramicaul at the base of the leaf and has a narrowly obovate, acute, shorter than the ovary floral bract.

"Characterized by the elliptical leaf borne by a ramicaul as long or a bit longer than the leaf. A short loose raceme of four to six flowers is about half as long as the leaf. The narrowly obovate dorsal sepal is free from the sysepal which is shortly bifid between apiculate tips. The petals are minutely serrate, the lip is oblong, with a serrulate margin, the sides are broadly rounded below the middle with a crest that curves inward to join the pair of verrucose calli above the middle. Just above the base there ia a pair of small, rounded calli. The base is truncate and minutely bilobulate." Luer 2004
