Common Name Matuda's Pleurothallis [Mexican discoverer of species 1900's]

Often spelled incorectly as P matudina or matudiana.

Found in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Ecuador and Bolivia at elevations of 1000 to 2400 meters in wet montane forests and mountain cloud forests as a medium sized, cool to coldgrowing epiphyte with an erect, terete ramicaul, and a single, apical, ovate-lanceolate, cordate leaf that is conduplicate at the base that blooms in the spring through fall with successive opening flowers nestled up against the cordate leaf base. This plant was found in Chiapas Mx., 1372m elev. Montebello Lake area, an epiphyte on low tree branches.

Easily differentiated by the thick, more or less arcuate, sulcate lip.
