Common Name The Bowl Bearing Pleurothallis [refers to the concave lip]

Flower Size .2" [5mm]

Found in El Oro province of Ecuador without specific locality as a miniature sized, caespitose epiphyte with slender, erect ramicaul enveloped by a tubular sheath on the lower quarter and 2 more at the base and carrying a single, apical, spreading, coriaceous, ovate, acute, cordate below into the sessile base leaf that blooms in the spring on a fascile, arising through a narrow spathe, 1/2 to .6" [1.2 to 1.6 cm] long, successively single, few flowered inflorescence with a tubular, shorter than the pedicel floral bract.

"Vegetatively it is not distinct, nor are the ovate dorsal sepal and synsepal and the linear-oblong petals but the lip is like no other in the section. It is held erect from the center of the flower by an articulation between the stout base of the column or the rudimentary foot and the base of the lip. The lip is ovate, subacute, concave and smooth with the base transversely thickened to form the flat end that fits snugly against the rudimentary column-foot." Luer 2005

Synonyms Acronia pelicophora (Luer) Luer 2005; Zosterophyllanthos pelicophorus (Luer) Szlach. & Kulak 2006
