Common Name The Dry Leathery Leaf Pleurothallis

Found from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru as well as Venezuela, Guyana, French Guiana, Surinam and Brazil in wet montane forests and cloud forests at altitudes of 480 to 3100 meters as a miniature to small sized, cold to warm growing, caespitose epiphyte that is with erect ramicauls carrying a single, apical, elliptic-oblong or oblanceolate, obtuse, petiolate leaf that blooms in the spring, summer and fall on an apical, subtended by a spathe and arising through an annulus below the apex of the ramicaul, racemose, to 12" [30 cm] long, longer than the leaves, several to many flowered inflorescence with a shorter to longer than the ovary floral bract and carrying the flowers held well above the leaf and having simultaneously opening, fragrant flowers.

"Characterized by the well developed ramicaul and an obtuse, elliptical, petiolate base leaf far surpassed by a multiflowered raceme of whitish, medium sized flowered witht the three, free slender, long-attenuate and widely spreading sepals. They vary in length and width and in degree of pubescence. The petals are small and obtuse with the midvein carinate and pueple externally. The lip varies cosiderably but intermural lamellae are always present below the middle with a prominent central carina. The apex of the columnis elongated, approaching the long beaked column of P rubens." Luer 1999
