Common Name Teague's Pleurothallis [American Botanist Current]
Flower Size 1/2"+ [1.25 cm]
Found in Esmeraldas province of Ecuador at elevations of 750 to 1550 meters as a large sized, warm to cool growing, caespitose epiphyte with erect, stout ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3, close tubular sheaths and another on the middle third and carrying a single, apical, horizontal to spreading, coriaceous, cordate-ovate, acute, basally sessile and deeply cordate leaf that blooms in the summer on a fascile, arising through a reclining spathe, of successive single flowered inflorescence and holding the flower close against the leaf base.
"Distinguished by the large, deeply cordate, spreading leaves with 2 to 3 immense, deep purple flower borne on top of the leaf. The suborbicular dorsal sepal is deeply concave and multiveined. The ovate synsepal is convex above the base behind the lip. The ip is thick, transversely obovate and convex witha broadly rouned revolute apex." Luer 2005
The other giant leafed relatives are P gargantua, P reginae, P imperialis all of Section Macrophyllae-Fasciclatae and P colossus of Section Macrophyllae-Racemosae.
