Found in Surinam, Venezuela, Brazil, Ecuador, and Peru at elevations around 120 to 300 meters as a small sized, hot growing terrestrial orchid with an erect, thin, basally branching and fractiflex above stem enveloped by sheaths gradually grading above into three veined, middle vein slightly sulcate, carinate, narrowly linear, acute, basally clasping and adnate to the stem leaves that blooms in the summer on several, lateral, short, rachis fractiflex, successively single, 4 to 6 flowered inflorescence arising from near the apex of the stem from the leaf axils.
"Separated from the similar Xerorchis trichorhiza by the form and size of the floral bracts. X amazonica has linear floral bracts instead of ovate-lanceolate floral bracts, the middle lobe of the lip is orbicular versus cuneate-ovate and the ecallose disc of the lip versus with 2 obliquely inserted calli in the center."
