Found in French Guiana, Guyana, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil at elevations around sea level to 1000 meters as a small sized, hot to warm growing terrestrial with soft roots, erect cane-like stems carrying flat, distichous, lanceolate, acute to acuminate, plicate leaves decreasing above in size into the floral bracts that blooms in the later spring on axillary, single flowered inflorescence.
