Common Name The Itabirinha Prosthechea [a city of Minas Gerais]

Found in Minas Gerais state of Brazil on high rock outcrppings [inselberg] at elevations around 1245 meters as a small sized, cool growing lithophye with fusiform, laterally compressed pseudobulbs enveloped basally by evanescent sheaths and carrying 2 to 3, apical, subcoriaceous, elliptic-oblong, leaves that blooms in the spring on a terminal, arising through a spathe, erect, racemose, to 245" [60 cm] long, simultaneously 10 to 12, many flowered inflorescence and carrying non-resupinate flowers
Similar to Prosthechea caetensis but P itabirinha is a smaller plant with a longer rhizome and inflorescence, smaller, fusiform pseudobulbs, smaller flowers with a shiny white, shorter lip witha narrower, smaller callus, spathulate petals and a narrower, differnt gymnostemium." Capacci 2009
