Common Name The Clavate Bulbophyllum [refers to the clavate– shape of the hairs on the edges of the dorsal sepal and the petals]

Flower Size .8 to 1" [2 to 2.5 cm] long

Found in northwestern Vietnam in evergreen broad-leaved humid forests at elevations around 1000 meters as a small sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with a stout, creeping rhizome giving rise to erect, .2 to .6" [5 to 15 mm] betweeen each, dark green, ovoid, slightly oblique, wrinkled pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, oblong-ovate, apical part arching, apex slightly retuse, narrowing and twisted at the base into a very short petiolate leaf that blooms in the later summer on a basal, peduncle erect, .84 to 1.2" [2.1 to 3 cm] long, basally covered by few sbrown papyraceous sheaths with 1, tubular, narrowly ovate, acute bracts, in an umbel, simultaneously 1 to 4 flowered inflorescence with narrowly triangular, acute, shorter than the ovary floral bracts.

"Bulbophyllum claviforme resembles Bulb. pecten-veneris and Bulb. flaviflorum but differs in its flower color – yellowish orange vs red (Bulb. pecten-veneris), yellowish green (Bulb. flaviflorum) – distinctly short inflorescence of Bulb. claviforme, which is as long, or little longer than flowers (vs. scape much longer than flowers of Bulb. pecten-veneris and Bulb. flaviflorum), small flower .8 to 1" [20 to 25 mm] long (vs flowers more than 1.6" [40 mm] long), the dense yellow clavate hairs along the margin of dorsal sepal and petals (vs fimbriate-ciliate edges of the margins of the dorsal sepal and petals of Bulb. pecten-veneris and Bulb. flaviflorum), dorsal sepal broadly ovate and acute apex (vs long caudate) and petals ovate, apex obtuse-rounded (vs ovate, apex acute)."
