Common Name The Diamantina Laelia [an area north central Minas Gerais and Bahia states of Brazil]

Flower Size

Found in Minas Gerais state of Brazil on rocky outcrops with nightly cloudcover, at elevations around 1400 meters as a miniature sized, cool growing rupicolous lithophyte with conical, 2 to 3 internodes, basaally thickened and tapering towards the apex, circular in cross-section pseudobulbs envelopoped by strongly adpressed, evanescent sheaths and carrying 1 to 2, erect, obovate, elongate, strongly leathery, conduplicate, rough and dark green above, furry beaneath leaves that blooms in the later spring on an erect, arising through a well developed, flat, linear, oblanceolate, spathe, to 40" [100 cm] long, peduncle brown, 32 to 35.2 " [80 to 88 cm] long, rachis 4.8 to 8" [12 to 20 cm] long, successively few, to 16 flowered inflorescence.

Similar to L Pfisteri but differs in the lower elevations of occurence, at 1000 meters, more robust pseudobulbs, frequently carrying 2 elangate and rather concave, obovate leaves vs in L pfisteri with longer, concal pseudobulbs carrying a single, elongate, elliptical, flat leaf. L dianmatinensis has a longer inflorescence with the flowers more clustered towards the apex and the flowers are 40% lager with relatively larger petals and sepals vs L pfisteri which which are much smaller and narrower
