Found in Antioquia, Cundinamarca and Cauca departments of Colombia and Ecuador in subparamoo and montane forests at elevations of 2600 to 3100 meters as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with 1 basal, ovate, ovate-elliptic, acute to acuminate,cordate basally, oblique, narrowly petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late spring and late summer and early fall on an erect, terminal, slender, peduncle [441 to 42 cm] long, glabrous in the lower part, glandular above, provided with 4 sheathing bracts, rachis 1.2 to 1.6" [3 to 4 cm] long, rather loosely many flowered inflorescewnce with lanceolate, acuminate, glabrous, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying white fowers.
"Distinguished by the single veined sepals, sparsely pilose petals margins that does not occur in any other species of the Ciliata group. Similar to Cranichis zarucchii but differs in the venation of the dorsal sepal [single versus 3 veined]. Moreover the petals of C zarucchii are densely and softly pubescent along both margins except at the abse and the apex and the lip is sessile versus shortly unguiculate, elliptic-ovate in outline verusu obovate."
