Common Name Turkel's Cranichis [Marni Turkel Californian Orchid Enthusiast Current]

Found in Ecuador without locational data as a large sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial orchid with a basal rosette of elliptic, acute, glabrous, undulate margins, dark green with 6 silver longitudinal lines, mid rib not silver, 4" [10 cm] long, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the winter on an erect, terminal, peduncle 16.4" [41 cm] long, rachis to 15.6" [39 cm] long, cylindrical, many flowered inflorescence with linear-lanceolate, acuminate, bright green, about half as long as the ovary floral bracts and carring non-resupinate, white flowers with a greenish tint to the upper half of the sepals and the petals have greenish midribs and the lip has emerald green spots, three green veins and a pale green center.
"Easily identified by the vigorously striped leaves unique to the genus. Similar to Cranichis longipetiolata but the new species differs in the shorter petioles,silver striped leaves, 2 veined lateral sepals and a spotted lip." Christenson 2004
