Common Name Farges' Cypripedium [French Missionary and Orchid Enthusiast in China late 1800's] - In China Mao Ban Shao Lan
Flower Size 1.5 to 2" [3.75 cm to 5 cm]
Found in Hubei and eastern Sichuan provinces of China in humus rich places within thickets, open forests and grassy places at elevations of 1900 to 3200 meters as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with an erect stem enveloped by 2 to 3 nearly tubular sheaths and carrying 2, ovate, light green, red spotted, plicate, obtuse leaves that blooms in the later spring and earlier summer on a terminal, erect, short to 3" [7.5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence without a floral bract.
This orchid is closely related to C margaritaceum.
