Found in southern Ecuador and Peru in dry grasslands above the treeline or on clay banks in wet, cloud forests at elevations of 2800 to 3300 metes as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with ovate, flattened pseudobulbs enveloped basally by several, distichous, imbricating sheaths with the uppermost being leaf-bearing that blooms in the spring and summer on an axillary, erect, slender, to 2'4" to 3'4" [70 cm to 1 meter] long overall, long pedunculate, paniculate, many ascending, strongly zig-zag, to 8" [to 20 cm] long, branched, many flowered inflorescence arising on a mature pseudobulb through the axil of the upper basal sheath and carrying campanulate flowers.
Certainly related to C rubrocallosum but differs in the callus and petal shape and column.
