Found in Borneo near Mt Kinabalu in lower to upper montane mossy forests at elevations 1500 to 2900 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with an abbreviated rhizome giving rise to crowded, oblong-ovoid to subcylindrical, finely longitudinally wrinkled, yellowish pseudobulbs enveloped basally by imbricating, basal, scarious becoming fibrous sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, linear to narrowly elliptic, acute, gradually narrowing, cuneate below into the sulcate, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall on a terminal, erect, longer than the leaf, peduncle 5.2 to 10.4" [13 to 26 cm] long, provided with 1 to 2, ovate, acute bracts, rachis quadrangular, 4.8 to 9.2" [12 to 23 cm] long, subdensely many flowered inflorescence with ovate, subacute, brown, as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying fragrant or not flowers.

This species has the general appearance and flower color of D trusmadiense of the section Eurybrachium but the column and lip are quite different." J J Wood 2001
