Common Name The Needle Carrying Dendrochilum [refers to the shortly acuminate lip midlobe]
Flower Size .24 to .32" [6 to 8 mm]
Found in Sabah Borneo on Mt Kinabalu found beneath bushes at elevations around 3000 meters as a mini-miniature to miniature sized, cold growing terrestrial as a possible natural hybrid between D grandiflorum and D stachyodes with a creeping, branching rhizome giving rise to densely crowded, at an acute angle to the rhizome, orange, cylindrical to narrowly ovoid, minutely rugulose, subapproximate pseudobulbs enveloped basally by 3, ovate-ellitpic, acute, becoming fibrous cataphyls and carrying a single, apical, erect, narrrowly oblong-elliptic to oblong-lanceolate, constricted below the acute apex, 5 main nerved, dark green leaf that blooms in the late spring on a curving and nodding, peduncle slender, 3.4 to 5.6" [8.5 to 14 cm] long, provided with a single, ovate-elliptic, acuminate bract, rachis quadrangular, 2 to 3.2" [5 to 8 cm] long, laxly 10 to 18 flowered inflorescence with broadly elliptic to broadly ovate, subacute to acute, carinate, slightly shorter to longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying fainly sweet scented flowers .
The flowers have the sepals & petals pale yellow or pale salmon, the lip is pale yellow suffused with very pale salmon towards the apex & with a deep salmon basal spot, the column is deep salmon and the anther is pale salmon.
