Common Name The Flat Plane Dendrochilum [refers to the flowers being all in one plane]
Flower Size .4” [1 cm]
Found in Sabah Borneo in lower and upper montane forests at elevations of 1300 to 2400 meters as a small to just medium sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with small, globose pseudobulbs carrying a single, narrowly linear, acute, gradually anrrowing below into the elongate, petiolate base leaf that blooms on an erect, then arching, laterally flattened peduncle, 8" [20 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence with subulate, involute, brown, longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying non-resupinate, two-ranked, fragrant flowers.
" A distinctive plant unlikely to be confused with any other Bornean species on account of the flattened peduncle and the coiled labellum. The coiled labellum recalls the Sumatran D mirabile belonging to the monospecific section Longicolumna. It is probably most closely allied to D odoratum from penninsular Malaysia and D simile from penninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java abd the Lesser Sunda Islands.
