Part ShadeWarmLATE Fall EARLY Winter

Common Name Marx' Encyclia [Brazilian discoverer of species current]

Flower Size .6" [1.5 cm]

Found in northeastern Minas Gerais state of Brazil at elevations of 500 to 800 meters as a small sized, warm growing lithophyte with pyriform, elongate, rounded, funnel-shaped basally pseudobulbs enveloped in youth by imbricating, deciduous sheaths and carrying 2 apical, coriaceous, smooth, narrowly lanceolate, cymbidiform, acute leaves that blooms in the late fall and early winter on a terminal, erect, panciculate, to 18" [45 cm] long, to 20 flowered inflorescence with simultaneously opening flowers.

Kew now states that this species is a synonym of the elusive E viridiflora brought forth in the publication Bastos, C.A., Meneguzzo, T.E.C. & van den Berg, C. (2015). Taxonomic notes on Brazilian Encyclia (Orchidaceae: Laeliinae). Phytotaxa 218(1): 77-83. [as Encyclia viridiflora]. I have not seen this publication to date so at this time I leave these two species separate. They are close.
