Common Name or Meaning Verboonen's Encyclia [Brazilian Orchid Gardener 1900's]

Flower Size 2" [5 cm]

This species is a natural hybrid between E argentinensis and E osmantha.

Found in Rio de Janiero and Minas Gerais states of Brazil in gallery forests at elevations of 400 to 500 meters as a medium sized, hot growing epiphyte with pyriform-elongate pseduobulbs enveloped in youth by imbricate, deciduous sheaths and carrying 1 to 2, apical, coriaceous, smooth, narrowly lanceolate, acute, basally clasping leaves that blooms in the spring on a terminal, erect, 32" to 48" [80 to 120 cm] long, paniculate, to 20 flowered inflorescence.

Kew considers this one an unplaced name which often means that there is something illegal in the publication that negates its validity.
