Common Name Cobigo's Epidendrum [French Guianese Orchid Collector of species current]

Flower Size .6" [1.5 cm]

Found in French Guiana in rainforests as a mini-miniature to small sized, hot growing epiphyte with basally cylindrical, strongly laterally compressed above, ancipitous, slightly flexuous stems carrying 3 to 7, all along the apical 3/4's of the stem, articulate, coriaceous, green, elliptic, obtuse, basally sheathing leaves that blooms in the winter and again in the spring on a terminal, sub-sessile, in a corymb, simultaneously 1 to 2 flowered inflorescence with a much shorter than the ovary floral bract and carrying resupinate, nocturnally fragrant [somewhat vanilla-like] flowers.

Epidendrum cobigoi is a part of GROUP Difforme characterized by the caespitose, sympodial plants, fleshy, pale green to glaucous leaves, apical inflorescence, sessile, rarely with a short peduncle, one-flowered to many-flowered, and then corymbose, without spathaceous bracts, fleshy, green to yellowish-green rarely white flowers. The species is distinguished by the ancipitous stems, a 1 to 2 flowered inflorescence, a lightly arched and trilobed lip, a transversely oblong in its general form, the lateral lobes slightly oblique, semi-orbicular to transversely elliptical, the median lobe with 2 straight, semi-oval lobules, and a short margin clinandrum.
