Found in Peru on both sides of the Andes at elevations of 2300 to 3400 meter as a small to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with cane-like, terete, erect, straight, branching subapically when mature stems carrying numerous, throughout the stems, sub-erect, alternate, articulate, coriaceous, green, margins purple-black, oblong, rounded apically, slightly bilobed leaves that blooms in the late spring through winter on an apical, terete, thin, racemose, occuring only once, arching-nutant, densely many [15 to 17] flowered inflorescence carrying resupinate, simultaneously opening, fleshy

"Epidendrum inamoenum belongs to the GROUP Andean SUBGROUP Soratae which is characterized by the tall plants, monopodial habit, generally large, bilobed leaves, racemose inflorescence, entire or 3-lobed lip with a channel at the base of the disc between the calli. The species is recognized by the sub-erect, oblong leaves, green to yellowish green flowers, sepals .36 to .4" [9 to 10 mm] long, and “Y” shaped fleshy keel on the lip, the lateral lobes of the lip longer than the midlobe. Epidendrum jaramilloi Hágsater & Dodson is vegetatively very similar, but the leaves are narrowly lanceolate, sepals .32 to .52" [8 to 13 mm] long, and the disc of the lip has a rounded fleshy thickening, the lateral lobes of the lip are ovate, nearly as long as the midlobe. Epidendrum chioneum Lindley is endemic to Colombia, has triangular-lanceolate, acute, apiculate leaves , the flowers are snow-white, sepals .24 to .32" [ 6 to 8 mm] long, and the disc of the lip has 3 low keels" Hagsater etal 2009
