Found in Panama in cloud forests at elevations of 850 to 1000 meters as a medium sized, warm growing epiphyte with simple, cane-like, basally terete, ancipitous towards the apex stems carrying linear-lanceolate, acuminate, narrowly cuneate basally leaves that blooms at any time of the year on a terminal, pluriracemose, occuring several times, long-pedunculate, ancipitous, bi-alate, wings prominent at the base inflorescence with conduplicate, shorter than the ovary, oblong, obtuse, imbricate, completely enveloping the rachis floral bracts and carrying 5 to 10, racemose, successively single flowers.

"E. jefeallenii belongs to GROUP Alberti SUBGROUP Allenii , characterized by the sympodial habit with laterally compressed to ancipitous to fusiform-thickened stems giving rise to both terminal and lateral, racemose, distichous inflorescence with more or less imbricating bracts and carrying a single successive flower. The species can be recognized by its narrower floral bracts, cordiform lip, with emarginate apex and 5-6 mm wide, sepals narrowly obovate. Epidendrum adnatum has a entire, ovate, acute lip, .12 to .16" [3 to 4 mm] wide, sepals lanceolate. Epidendrum lankesterii Ames, has wider leaves, inflorescence longer than the apical leaves, wider floral bracts, subrounded to subovate lip, slightly lobulated toward basal half, .16" [4 mm] wide, disc without keels.
