Found in western Panama at elevations around 1400 meters as a small sized, cool growing epiphyte with simple, cane-like, somewhat laterally compressed, flexuous stems and carrying 8 to 10, all along the stem, obliquely ascending, sulcate, linear, obtuse to obscurely bilobed apically leaves that blooms in the later summer on a terminal, occuring only once, sessile, 1 to 2 flowered inflorescence with much shorter than the ovary, triangular, acute floral bracts and carrying successively opening, resupinate flowers.

"Epidendrum pudicum belongs to the GROUP Difforme which is characterized by the caespitose sympodial plants, fleshy, pale green to glaucous leaves, apical inflorescence, sessile, rarely with a short peduncle, single flowered to corymbose without spathaceous bracts, fleshy, green to yellowish green, rarely white flowers. The species can be recognized by its laterally compressed stems, linear, obliquely ascending, .08 to .12" [2 to 3 mm] wide leaves, 1 to 2, small, simultaneous flowers, colored waxy white with a faint tinge of green, 3-veined sepals, single-veined petals, and the lip cordiform to obscurely 3-lobed, with semi-orbicular lateral lobes, a midlobe triangular-truncate, and a prominent, fimbriate clinandrium-hood and subglobose calli. It is similar to Epidendrum firmum Rchb.f. which has somewhat wider leaves, pale green flowers, and a 3-lobed líp with a subquadrate midlobe." Hagsater etal
