Common Name Scharf's Epidendrum [Birder and sometimes Orchid Collector in Ecuador current]

Found in Costa Rica, Colombia and Ecuador on trees and fence posts near streams at elevations around 1200 to 1700 meters as a miniature to small sized, cool growing epiphyte with erect, cane-like, terete, flexuous stems carrying 3 to 6, ascending, narrowly ovate-elliptic, bilobed, coriaceous, grayish-green leaves that blooms in the fall and winter on a terminal, occuring only once, sub-umbellate, 3 to 4 flowered inflorescence with shorter than the ovary, ovate floral bracts and has simultaneously opening, resupinate flowers.
" This species is a member of GROUP Difforme, and can be recognized by the erect, 2.4 to 7.2" [6 to 18 cm] high stems, 3 to 4 simultaneous flowers, oblanceolate, 3-veined petals .6 to .8" [1.5 to 2 mm] wide, reniform lip with the base cordate and apex slightly emarginate, an arcuate column, and the prominent clinandrium erose-dentate. It is similar to E. zamorense Hágsater & Dodson which has larger plants and more narrowly oblanceolate leaves." Hagsater etal 1993
