Found in Ethiopia and Tanzania in forests in grassy glades, especially by streams and in damp places in heath at elevations of 1450 to 3600 meters as a small to large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with an erect stem carrying 5 to 10, lowqest 2 sgeath-like, the middle 3 to 5 lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, the uppermost smaller but similar bract like leaves that blooms in the summer on a terminal, erect, 2 to 20" [5 to 50 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescnece with narrowly lanceolate, lower ones longer than the flowers floral bracts and carrying green to yellowish green flowers.
"Differs from H distantiflora by the lateral sepals being .14 to .22" [3.5 to 5.5 mm] long, versus .12 to .16" [3 to 4 mm] long, and the spur being .6 to 1.12" [1.5 to 2.8 cm] long versus .4 to .68" [1 to 1.7 cm] long.
