Part shadeCool Summer

Common Name The Herminium-Like Habenaria

Flower Size 1" [2.5 cm]

Found in Magdalena and Santander departments of Colombia at elevations around 1675 meters as a miniature to medium sized, cool growing terrestrial with 3 to 4 basal, in a rosette, oblong-elliptic to ovate-lanceolate, acute leaves grading to bracts above that blooms in the summer on a terminal, erect, 1.6 to 4" [4 to 10 cm] long, laxly 5 to 15 flowered inflorescence with longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying yeelow green flowers with cream to green petals.

Similar to H distans , H cogniauxiana and H millei which all have a basal rosette of leaves. The spur of H herminoides and H millei are more or less narrowly subclavate, slightly thickened above the middle, in contrast to H distans and H cogniauxiana that have a filiform spur that is not thickened at all. H herminoides generally has smaller flowers than H millei. The anterior petal lobe is longer than the posterior one whereas in H millei it is backward with the anterior lobe shorter than the posterior one." Szlachetko & Kolanowska 2017
