Common Name Maire's Habenaria [French Botanist early 1900's] - In China Bang Ju Yu Feng Hua

Flower Size 1.2" [3 cm]

Found in western Hubei, western Sichuan, northwestern Yunnan and southeastern Xizang China in mixed forests or on scrubby and grassy slopes at elevations of 2400 to 3400 meters as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with oblong to ovoid tubers giving rise to an erect, rather stout stems and carrying 5 to 7, elliptic-ligulate to oblong-lanceolate, acuminate, amplexicaul below leaves that blooms in the summer on a terminal, racemose, to 6" [15 cm] long, several to 10 flowered inflorescence with elliptic-lanceolate bracts and rather large, fragrant flowers.

This species is within a group of similar orchids consisiting of H davidii, H arietina, H limprichtii, H triquetra, H yueana, H intermedia and H pectinata which all have trilobed lips with the two lateral sides with fringe. .
