Found in Jalisco Mexico in clearings of oak forests at elevations around 1500 to 1700 meters as a small sized, cool growing terrestrial with ellipsoid tubers giving rise to an erect stem carrying 6, cauline, coriaceous, erect, the lowest elliptic, obtuse, becoming lanceolate, acuminate, each one narrower above, largest is the topmost, 5 nerved leaves that blooms in the early fall on a terminal, erect, cylindrical, to 3.8" [9.5 cm] long, to 19 flowered inflorescence with conduplicate, narrow, lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, acuminate , lowest longer than the ovary, equal to above floral bracts.
