Common Name The Outcurved Habenaria [refers to the outcurved lateral lobe of the labellum]

Found in northern most penninsular, Queensland state of Australia on the island of Moa in grass and low shrubs at elvations of 50 to 200 meters as a hot growing terrestrial with ovoid to obovoid, fleshy, somewqhat irregular tubers giving rise to an erect, leafy stem carrying 3 to 5, lanceolate, dark green, radical, subacute leaves that blooms in the spring on an erect, slender, wiry, peduncle 8 to 12" [20 to 30 cm] longh, rachis 4 to 8" [10 to 20 cm] long, 15 to 25 flowered inflorescence with narrowly ovate-lanceolate, long-acuminate, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying white, fragrant, moderately spaced flowers
Similar to H halata but H vatia it is much more robust with 3 to 5, large leaves in a well defined rosette. It also has larger flowers with longer sepals, a longer labellum spur and the labellum has a longer mid-lobe and much longer, outcurved, tapered lateral lopes. It is also similar to H praecox but H vatia is a more robust plant with larger leavces, longer sepals, the mid lobe of the lip is narrower, the lateral lobes much longer and narrowly divergent, and the dorsal sepal and the spur are longer and different."
