Found on Mindanao in Zamboanga district of the Philippines without locality as a small sized, hot growing terrestrial with a thick stem carrying about 3, oblong-lanceolate, acuminate, acute, nerved, petiolate base leaves that blooms on an erect to 10.4" [26 cm] long overall, peduncle elongate, somewhat fleshy, congested, many flowered inflorescence with scarious, lanceolate, acute bracts.
M copelandii is very close to M acuminata, M burbidgei and M discolor but the middle lobe of the labellum is formed by 2 slight indentations in the margin near the apex of the lip, these indentations form the lateral lobes of the lip
