Common Name The Excellent Masdevallia

Flower Size 3/8" [1 cm]

Found in Ecuador in cloud forests at altitudes of 1400 to 2800 meters as a mini-miniature to miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte and sometimes terrestrial orchid with slender, erect, green with purple dots ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 close, tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, petiolate, elliptical, subacute leaf that is gradually narrowed below into the channeled petiole which blooms in the fall and winter on a slender, erect, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract below the middle and an inflated floral bract.
