Common Name Zahlbruckner's Masdevallia [Austrian Botanist early 1800's]
Flower Size .74" [1.85 cm]
Found in Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador and Bolivia in montane rain forests in deep shade on larger tree branches at altitudes of 400 to 2000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte with an erect, .2 to .24" [5 to 6 mm] long, stem enveloped by 2 to 3 close, tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, fleshy, elliptic-ovate, obtuse leaves that gradually narrow into the sub-petiolate base blooming in the spring on a prostrate to descending, 1.2" to 2.8" [3 to 7 cm] long inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract below the middle and tubular floral bracts with succesive single flowers held horizontally well below the leaves.
