Common Name Edwall's Oncidium [Swedish Orchid Collector]

Flower Size 1/2" [1.5 cm]

Found in Sao Paulo State Brazil in hot humid lowlands of the coast and interior marshlands of the Serra do Mar as a small, warm to cool growing epiphytic species occurs with rounded, sharply laterally compressed, ancipitous pseudobulbs partially enveloped basally by several pairs of distichous, imbricating, leaflike sheaths and carrying an apical, single, narrowly oblong, leathery, acute, slightly conduplicate at the base leaf that blooms in the fall on a basal, arcuate, 4" to 12" [10 to 30 cm] long, paniculate, few to many flowered inflorescence arising on a newly matured pseudobulb.

CAUTION!!! This species is very similar to O hians and has been confused in some references. I follow Pabst here but I am not 100% sure that this is correct as I have not been able to see Cogniaux's or Lindley's type descritions. O aberrans is given as a synonym of this species but I have left it apart pending better references.

Synonyms Aurinocidium edwallii ( Cogn. ) Romowicz & Szlach. 2006; Epidendrum monophyllum Vell. 1831; Grandiphyllum edwallii ( Cogn. ) Docha Neto 2006
