Common Name Pavon's Pelexia [Spanish explorer and botanist 1700s]
Flower Size
Found in Ancash and Lima departments of Peru at elevations around 490 meters as a small sized, hot growing terrestrial with 1 to 4, basal, in a rosette, obliquely lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, acute, rounded below into the narrow, canaliculate petiolate base leaves that blooms in the fall on an erect, terminal, delicate, glandular, peduncle 4.8 to 6.4" [12 to 16 cm] long, rachis 2.4 to 2.8" [6 to 7 cm] long, subdensely to densely, 10 plus flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, acute, longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying medium sized, externally sparsely pubescent flowers.
Reichenbach compared this species to P novofriburgensis but distinguished by its short, axial spur, elongated sepals and a tongueshaped to narrowly violin-shaped labellum with a semi-ovate-pointed, slightly notched anterior lobe. The leaves are described as wedge-shaped to oblong-lanceolate. The flowers are said to be about 1/3 smaller than Sarcoglottis acaulis
