Found in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica in high elevation cloud forests as a small sized, warm to cold growing, caespitose epiphyte that occurs at altitudes of 2000 to 2200 meters with a triangular, sulcate ramicaul carrying a single, apical, fleshy, elliptical, retuse apically, grey-green leaf that gradually becomes conduplicate into a long sinus and blooms in the spring and summer on a short, arising from the midvein below the middle of the leaf, fasciculate, to 1" [2.5 cm] long, few flowered inflorescence with longer than the ovary floral bracts and holding the flowers close to the leaf.
"Characterized by the leaf deeply decurrent on the winged ramicaul so that the raceme is borne nea the middle of the blade of the leaf. The racemes are short and distichous. The flowers are extremely similar to P chrysantha and they vary greatly in size." Luer 2004
